Cannabis Job Market Overview:

Oklahoma's medical cannabis market, which launched in 2018, boasts roughly 400 dispensaries in Oklahoma City alone.

However, even with a booming medical market, voters rejected the ballot initiative that would have legalized recreational cannabis in the state, in March 2023.

Cannabis Job Requirements & Application Process:

A bill signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt in May 2022 will require all cannabis employees to apply for and receive credentialing effective Jan. 1, 2024. The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority may work with third-party vendors to establish cost and prices, as well as provide the credentialing services.

As of now, most cannabis workers can expect a background check, which costs $15 when administered by the state.

Who needs a Transporter Agent License?

“A transporter agent license allows individual employees/owners/agents to transport medical marijuana on behalf of a licensed transporter, including growers, processors, dispensaries and stand-alone transporters. If approved for your license, you will be issued a transporter agent identification for you to carry with you any time you are transporting medical marijuana.

It is important to note that transporter agents must meet the new two or five year residency requirements and that an employer can terminate an agent’s license at any time.” Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, Transporter Application Information
