Cannabis Job Market Overview:

A 2022 ballot initiative amending the Maryland Constitution to legalize adult-use sales was passed by voters by a large margin — 66% to 34%. Sales are expected to begin in July 2023.

There are currently no separate rules for adult-use cannabis workers.

Medical cannabis in Maryland was made legal in May 2013 with sales beginning in December 2017.

The Maryland Cannabis Administration requires Cannabis Dispensary Agent Training for all of the dispensary employees in the state.

Cannabis workers in Maryland are called "agents."

Any individual working for a licensed dispensary, medical grow, or processor must be registered as an agent. There are three types of agents currently in the state of Maryland: a Medical Cannabis Grower Agent, a Medical Cannabis Processor Agent, and a Registered Dispensary Agent.   • 21 years of age or older
  • Be submitted by the licensee (the company who hired you)
  • Provide fingerprints
  • Undergo a background check

Requirements for the Cannabis Dispensary Agent Training are as follows: This training requires: – Completion of Cannabis Dispensary Agent Training (CDAT) Application – Dispensaries are required to provide employees with annual training that is in accordance with COMAR 10.62.26.07 – To see if you meet the requirements to apply for Dispensary Agent Training (CDAT) check out the Application Guidance
