Cannabis Job Market Overview:

In June 2012, a program for medical cannabis was signed into law. In June 2021, Connecticut lawmakers approved a social equity-focused, adult-use cannabis market that's expected to eventually generate more than $700 million in sales.

Adult-use sales in the state began in January, 2023, and the state's adult and medical markets hit a record $22 million in combine sales in March, the third month of regulated sales

Cannabis Job Requirements & Application Process:

All dispensary technicians (i.e. budtenders) are required to be registered with the Department of Consumer Protection. As a result of the state taking the approach to legalization, of allowing medical-use dispensaries to begin adult-use sales, it is required that dispensary personel have an active pharmacy technician registration in the State of Connecticut within the past five years and is or was in good standing at the time their registration lapsed (per the Connecticut State Deparmtent of Consumer Protection)

It is unclear at this time, what the requirements will be for employees of dispensaries that were never medical-use, as these businesses have not begun sales.

Cannabis Job Background Check Requirements:

The state of Connecticut requires that dispensary technicians be registered as an active pharmacy tech within the state of Connecticut. According to PTCB Test Prep the following requirements are required to apply for a license: – Must be 18-years or older – Must have earned a high school diploma or GED – Must pass a criminal background check – Must complete the application process and submit a $100 fee to the state treasurer – Must study and pass the PTCB examination "
